Crime victim services keep busy, face challenges

Posted August 19, 2023

When a crime occurs, the defendant usually works with an attorney or public defender to argue their case. Victims, meanwhile, are aided by government-funded offices and nonprofit organizations. In western Wisconsin, each county has victim services specialists attached to the district attorney’s office, as well as groups such as River Falls-based Turning Point. However, victim services in Pepin, Pierce, Polk and St. Croix counties face challenges related to funding and politics.
