What time is it? Any person who has been on the University of Wisconsin-River Falls campus since fall semester classes began may be wondering why clocks are wrong in many of the buildings.
By next fall, all academic buildings at UW-River Falls are to have new clocks put in, according to Alan Symicek, executive director of Facilities Management. The only buildings that currently have the new clocks are the Falcon Center, Rodli Hall and the University Center, he said.
With a justification of constant resetting and aging equipment, Symicek said that funding has been received from the Wisconsin Small Project Program to replace all remaining academic building clocks with new electrical ones that automatically sync to the current time. Campus buildings that are non-academic, such as residence halls, will not have their clocks replaced, he said.
According to the Wisconsin Department of Administration, the small project program is run through the Division of Facilities Development (DFD) as authorized by the State Building Commission. The DFD works with campuses in the University of Wisconsin system as well as other state institutions “to identify needed projects and providing assistance in implementing urgent maintenance and code compliance needs.”
The total project cost will be $134,000, which includes the system design, purchase of the clocks and labor, Symicek said.
